"He is like the child artist that Picasso speaks of, before we crush them with our concepts of colour and materials and what we think equates as art".- Early Childhood Australia
Andy Goldsworthy OBE is a world renowned British Land Artist. His career has spanned four decades and his works are made from whichever natural materials capture his imagination. These may be leaves, sticks, rock, branches, anything he finds. He has an affinity for circular shapes, stone work and wood in his work. He speaks of his art as taking it to the edge of possibility, a fine balance between being and collapsing. For Goldsworthy Land Art is not just the initial sculpture but also how the sculpture interacts and is accepted or deconstructed by the environment it inhabits. Goldsworthy regularly will visit his works to observe their 'life' observing this process of deconstruction. As you go through this website I'd like you to think about the quote above. That we, as Early Childhood Educators, have a responsibility to encourage children to develop their own knowledgeable and confident self identity (EYLF). Our role in visual arts is to expose them to countless possibilities and an untamed and unlimited personal expression.
