“Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books.”
― John Lubbock
Land art is an ephemeral sculpture approach in which the artist uses materials from nature to create a piece of art that harmonises with the chosen natural space.
For children land art offers the chance to immerse themselves with their natural environment developing in them a lifelong respect and love of the environment. Land art is as simple as going outside and playing with the natural resources found outside.
This site has been designed as a resource for teachers and aims to inspire and introduce teachers to land art, introductory lessons and links for further research. On the following page I have developed a contextual statement so that you the reader can easily find how land art and the introductory lessons I have created envelope the national curriculum.
One of the most notable land artists is Andy Goldsworthy. I have dedicated a page of this site to Goldworthy’s work and have included links for your reference. I hope you will find his works as inspirational as I have.
Please watch and share with your class the David Attenborough video below. It provides a beautiful starting point for any lesson.
